Hi Cohousing folks, I am enjoying this discussion about the Common House furnishings topic. We are thinking about building the Common House first, so these matters will be part of our first design decisions. I would like to hear from other groups who have built the Common House first; how has it influenced the way you use the Common House, how was the CH used before the homes were built, etc. ? >From my own experience with church suppers and stays at youth hostels I would say that buffet style serving is definitely more convenient for the serving/cleanup crew. And I agree that rectangular tables are much more adaptable to different situations. One question: Do kids ever really sit by themselves at a 'kid's table'?
