I heard on the news last night that the former army base (Fort Devens) in Shirley, MA. was being used for lots of different purposes and that thousands of jobs had been created. They were trying to decide what to do about 300 units of housing that were still left. They specifically said they were looking for ideas that recreated the kind of close knit community that existed among the army folk. It sounded like a good idea for a cohousing developer. IT could make 3 or 4 different cohousing communities. The buildings are there and empty, there are probably lots of facilities that would be amenable to common house type activities, and it is in a really nice rural area about 40 minutes outside of Boston.
