Thanks to everyone for their recommendations regarding land acquisition!  I
realized reading your responses that the way I worded my request made us
sound, uh, dumber than we really are...

While we have been doing a lot of legwork ourselves -- driving around and
looking at neighborhoods, studying zoning maps, meeting with city planners,
etc. -- we are well aware that we need professional assistance in this area.
What I intended to ask for -- and indeed received! -- was advice on what
TYPE of professional (realtor, lawyer, developer?), how to
find/choose/evaluate one, how to figure out what is a fair fee to pay
whoever we hire, etc.

Again, thanks to all who responded -- I have collated and forwarded all
responses on to my group.  I just love these lists!
