First and foremost, Pinakarri is an intentional community which is building ( ready to move in - 1 week :-) ) a cohousing co-op of 12 houses and commonhouse. Anyone can become a member of Pinakarri Community. So we have members who live/will be living next door, around the corner or in a nearby suburb as well as 2-8 hours drive away. At first they tended to be members whose paths took them to different places. More recently, as the buildings went up and it was obvious that we're sticking around, more people have joined to be part of the community, some looking to rent or buy houses nearby. This extension of the community was always part of the vision. We even discovered a family who bought a house in the area because they heard about our project but never met us! Of course this brings up issues like access to the commonhouse. There is definitely a scale of commitment to building and responsibility for community (including some residents). Some people are keen to participate where they directly benefit yet are more circumspect when it comes to creating the opportunities and infrastructure. However I believe that the diversity of the membership can help keep the community honest and healthy. Warmest regards Robyn Williams Pinakarri Community Fremantle, Western Australia
