RoseWind Cohousing has a recently-built resale small home for sale, for $119,500. Port Townsend Washington is a very cool place. For the visitors, it is a Victorian Seaport with wonderful buildings, and shops, and history and festivals. For those who live here, it is a town of 8000 with an astonishing quantity of music, art, theater, children's activities, dances of all sorts, family-owned businesses, natural food stores and locally grown organic produce. Kind of a college town without a college. Mild climate. Same rainfall as San Francisco (18 " a year). Water and mountains not far away. RoseWind Cohousing started ten years ago. We are 20 families, on nine acres of land right close to everything in town. Half the land is commons, and half is in individual home sites, with houses that have each been designed to the owners' budget and tastes. A big vegetable garden on the commons offers plots for gardeners, and our common house is designed and will start construction this year. We have an interim common space which we use for weekly community dining and monthly meetings. The re-sale home that is available will sell fast. The owner has listed it with a local real estate agent: the one previous time this unit was thus listed, it sold in one day! We would love to have a new owner who is seeking cohousing. Price is $119,500. It's a really nice small house, featured in Jim Tolpin's recent "Cottage Homes" book. It's about 800 square feet, and designed so that two more rooms could easily be added on. The layout has a sunny main room with kitchen, dining and living areas combined. Marble counters and wooden cabinetry in the kitchen area, radiant floors throughout. Off the main room there is a bedroom, and there is also a bathroom, a back hall with pantry and closet space, and a mechanical room for the washer and dryer. The house is super-insulated, and is finished in a grey stucco with ground up seashells on the surface. No stairs, level entry. Lots of landscaping work, flagstone patio. It's close by the common house site, and has private parking by the house. This would be a super place for a single person, or for a small family who want to economize. Or use it to try us out, without going through building a house: this house should be easy to resell without losing anything, if a family wanted to buy or build a larger home later at RoseWind, or move elsewhere. RoseWind Cohousing is full of wonderful people, creative energy, and great cooks. And Port Townsend is a delightful place to live. Come join us!
