Gilda Iriarte who is now in Miami doing real estate but once worked with the Cohousing Company had some interesting advice on developers and contractors -- ask your bank or several local banks for referrals. The banks know who has good records for completing projects within budget and they will be most familiar with practices in your area. If the bank likes (meaning trusts) your developer and contractor, you will also have an easier time getting a construction loan.
