I'd like to hear some debate on who has the best snow skiing friendly cohousing group. items to brag about would be distance to slopes, ability to get to the slopes, preferably with other community minded folks, number of active skiers and ability levels. I've heard rumors that Aspen failed cause most of the folks really bought in for cheap units. Was this the only reason? I am the County Engineer for Alpine County in CA (near Lake Tahoe), location of Kirkwood, a quickly developing, soon to be destination resort, and Bear Valley, a relatively mature small resort. One of the developers with whom i'm working with is familiar with cohousing, and new urbanism even more so. Coincidentally, i've put a deposit on an employee unit in a new building under construction 150 feet from Kirkwood's main lift. Any thoughts as to whether resort or second home cohousing would work for 1)a group of employee housing, 2)emloyee housing mixed with market rate units, or 3)market rate only units? Any ideas on whether this type of thing could lead to development of an umbrella group of multiplace based community? Is there anyone out there that has an interest in taking the lead on putting a group together in the tahoe area (preferably south shore for me)? or at some other ski resort?(whoa- there is an open ended question!) I have some leads from when i was pursuing a similar thing for Iron Mountain ( a defunct ski area near kirkwood).
