Same here.
On ways to attract families with children: We put flyers at the libraries, and
in alternative-leaning private schools. Some of us, who have kids in such
schools, got articles into their newsletters. If a town has any
parenting/children
publications, that might be a good place to place an ad, or to get a story
in. Or put ads in more general-interest publications, which have schedule
of upcoming events (assuming the group does slide shows, or plans other
events). Some fairs are a good place to get the word out. And if you have
an NPR radio station, that would be a choice place to advertise. If your
ads say "children friendly", or some such thing, it might help.

I also think that if a group wants people with children to join, they need
to stress that to other prospective members, so that people who are
anti-children (or don't mind them as long as they are on another planet:))
will get the message. Even with all the kids we have, some interested
people would come to open houses and ask questions about all the
places kids won't be allowed in, or around... We explained to them that on
a small urban site the likelihood of finding seclusion (except inside
one's house or back yard) is unlikely.
Even so, we still have a couple of people who have a really low level of
tolerance
towards kids.

R.
