I can see why one objects to the use of the word "commune", since the word is employed to scare people (who by and large don't know a "commune" from a hole in the ground). But why object to the word "communal"? -
Because for some reason it evokes, "commune" way more than "common" or "community" do. I can't say that this surprises me.
