For those of you getting ready to build, you may be interested in a new kind of insulation which I had put in my new house in Liberty Village. It is called Icynene, and is sprayed in as a liquid, then puffs right up into a foam that seals every nook and cranny. It saves energy, since it creates a "tight house" that cuts down on drafts and leaks. It is also healthier, which is why I got it, since I have asthma. It is completely inert, so does not have cancer causing offgases and inhibits the growth of molds, etc. And it makes the house quieter. You can find information on it in the mid-Atlantic states at www.thermalsealexperts.com or at Icynene.com. I also have ground source heating so the two together should make very low energy costs.
