At Muir Commons, we charge for the cost of preparing the meal (total
shopping bill(s)) divided by the number of people eating. Although this
means the cost varies, I believe the goal is to keep it to around
$3.00-$4.00 a meal. If we have an expensive meal posted (salmon, for
example) it is noted on the sign up sheet that it will be a "double" cost
meal so people can decide whether they want to attend (and of course pay
extra).

Our meals generally involve a pasta- or rice-based dish, salad, bread -- and
are often vegetarian or, if not, a vegetarian option is offered (for
example, a recent meal I co-cooked included both chicken mole and tofu mole)
and people indicate on the sign-up sheet which they would like. Brunches
often offer a choice of meat or non-meat bacon or sausage.

We are preparing to have meals in the common house.  So I'm asking for an
update on  prices for common meals.

When you respond, would you say where you are as prices for food and other
items are somewhat different in different parts of the country.  In the
archives, I believe I remember reading that some communities only charged
$2.OO a meal.  If you charge less than $3.00, would you say how you manage
that?    What kind of menus do you serve?
