Our meals are a flat rate of $2 for adults and $1 for children 4-16. Children under 4 eat free. We still have a surplus. Since we had to set up a separate account for anything that made a profit, we also put our laundry money in there, at $.25 per wash or dry, and some other incidental monies. It's kinda like some European countries that have the post office and the phone company as one entity, one subsidizing the other. (France?) The small fee for the laundry is still far less than it costs to own and operate my own machines, and the low price of our meals really encourages people to eat at the CH, especially families. Our meals are tasty and some of our cook teams, Like mine, regularly spend more than they take in for meals. Others always spend less. We do occasionally get salmon in season on sale, and don't charge extra. I'd have to really think about paying $4 for a common meal. -- Liz Stevenson Southside Park Cohousing Sacramento California http://members.home.net/southsideparkcohousing/ tamgoddess [at] home.com _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l
