Kevin I gather from your post that you wanted to know whether I feel guilty about having cats. As a responsible pet owner I am concerned about the effect of cats on birds and other wildlife in my area. I live in a built up area where the main birds are sparrows, starlings and blackbirds. All of them are considered pest species. My cats are mostly indoors so the chance of them catching even one of these birds is minute. They've not caught any yet. As someone mentioned earlier, the threat of cats to native lizards is greater and a better reason to keep them inside. Feral cats pose more of a risk to wildlife. However human destruction of their natural habitats poses an even greater risk. A friend of mine who is a wildlife biologist said that the main native birds that the feral cats get anyway are the weak ones.
