Since it was, although unintentionally so, I'll address
a couple of points.

How do we know what "the whole list" wants to hear (or not)?
I doubt that there is any one posting which everyone is intersted
in, and in any case, the intent shouldn't be to address everyone's needs and
interests in any single post.  It's sufficient that *some* people
find it of interest, and I don't think anyone should attempt to
use their own interests as the measuring stick for all posts.

I agree that it is flawed, but I still find it very useful.  Every form 
of communication has its good and bad points, IMO.  We should 
try to utilize each one in ways which optimizes its usefulness.
I also think that one can get better with practice.  (Maybe I'm
deluded, but I feel that I'm much better at writing email posts
now than I was a few years ago)...
