Ettiquette and Digests

When Cohousing-L was at the old listserv there was a very long welcome
message. It may have had something about ettiquette - I dont recall or
have it handy. Over our nearly 10 years we have been
a friendly, congenial discussion without the acrimony that some
online discussions suffer from. I attribute this mostly to the topic
and the types of people attracted to it.

Maybe something like the following should be added to the info page:

Please follow generally accepted net etiquette, see:
  http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html

Back when the list was small we did encourage people to introduce
themselves but since we are around 500 people that is no longer
as realistic. But people who wish to introduce themselves are welcome
todo so, particularly if it sets the context for their comments -
presumably about cohousing.

There are a number of specific recommendations that have been made at one
time or another - dont post HTML or other attachments, identify ourself
and your community, compose good subject lines etc. These are not posted
in one place at the moment. Another task... Volunteers?

Regarding digests. The list is currently configured to generate a digest
when 30 Kbytes of messages have been received. Thus very active day's can
generate multiple digests. This number could be increased - I'm open to
comment - off list. If the 30K threshold is not reached during the day
and there are messages, one digest is sent .
