Well, gosh, does this have to be about the romantic wilderness? How about
the trials of the urban cohousers? What about the constant fight against
the rampaging racoons who start rolling our trash barrels about in the
middle of the night so that we have to anchor the lids down with bungee
cords? And the skunk that makes outings to the trash enclosure after dark
something of a problematic practice? And the garter snakes who like to
snuggle in the compost in winter? And those sneaky looking possums, and the
squirrels who dig up the bulbs, and everybody who raids the (all organic)
vegetable garden for the ripest tomatoes! I won't even mention the rodents
on the railroad tracks (oh, I already did).

But here in the City of Cambridge we also have a peregrine falcon nesting on
a nearby highrise and a kestrel and other hawks hang out in our neighborhood
park. A wild area a few blocks away is home to beaver and muskrats, among
other animals, and a multitude of birds. Nearby is Mount Auburn Cemetary,
which is a famous birding center, especially during the migrations. We have
a band of early risers led by a couple of experienced birders who make many
trips there in spring and fall.

So don't believe there is nothing to see in the City. The amazing thing
about nature is that it adapts and thrives wherever the macadam stops!
