Workshop on Cohousing as Socially Responsible Building

Where: Charlotte, VT

When: May 11th, 2002, 10 am to 5 pm.

Children: Activities and childcare are provided at the workshop, which is
being held at a small farm.

Who: Champlain Valley Cohousing's Project Coordinator Sheila Braun; Will
Raap of Gardener's supply; Bill Maclay of William Maclay Architects and
Planners;  Hal and Susie Hamilton of the Sustainability Institute and Cobb
Hill Cohousing, and faculty of the University of Vermont's new Gund
Institute for Ecological Economics (moving to UVM from the University of
Maryland).

Attendees: Builders, developers, architects, designers, lenders,
politicians, people who want to build cohousing, people who want to live in
cohousing, and their families.

Topics

o    What is cohousing?
o    How housing and farming can be combined to preserve farmland;
o    Financial considerations when building cohousing;
o    Design, architecture, and permitting considerations of cohousing;
o    The nuts and bolts of building Cobb Hill Cohousing in Hartland,
Vermont;
o    Features of cohousing that make it an ecological and socially
responsible choice;
o    Tour of the Champlain Valley Cohousing site.

Lunch is provided.
