That's a nice bottom line (especially compared to the SF Bay Area of
late), but what are/were comparable rates for similar size/type
developments in the area? When was it? It's hard to interpret without a
context.

If you're going to share an exciting tidbit like that, please at least
give a citation so we can look it up!

It sounds like you're referring to Fine Homebuilding magazine, published
by Taunton Press, February/March 2002 (#145):

http://www.taunton.com/store/pages/fh_toc_145.asp

"BUILDING AFFORDABLE HOUSES", page 63
by Fernando Pagés Ruiz
By including his subcontractors in the design process and watching every
penny, a Midwestern builder creates attractive starter homes for $45 per
sq. ft.

Back issues on sale for $4.95 each (through 5/31/02) plus $1.50
postage/handling.

I know that the subs here at <A HREF="http://www.swansmarket.com/";>Swan's
Market<?A> (including the Swan's Market Cohousing subproject) were part
of the "value engineering" process that the (nonprofit)
developer/contractor here pursued. After getting bids, they want back to
each and figured out where the biggest savings could be found. I believe
this is a standard part of every large project (or if it's not, it should
be!)

P.S. Has Fine Homebuilding ever covered Cohousing? If not, it sounds like
a great market/opportunity to pursue/educate.
