Hi Cyndie, >I am in the very early stages of thinking about developing a small >community that would be buying a large-ish house in Seattle probably near >the U-District. We would be looking for a 5 plus bedroom house, and >manage it in the co-op/cohousing mode. I suspect that not all the >participants will be buying in, some will have to rent due to lack of >down-payment. I have no idea how the finances for such a thing >would/could work. Does anybody have ideas on where to start looking? It >seems that there must be other people doing this. How can I find them? Best recommendation i have for you is to talk with Sheldon Cooper at Beacon Hill House, <bhhouse [at] yahoo.com> or 206-324-6822. He's one of the founders of that community and is also involved with a land trust in Seattle. Another group you could try contacting are the Jolly Ranchers, <jollyranchers [at] ic.org> or 206-322-8071. Those are the two groups in Seattle that i'm the most familiar with, but i know there are others, such as Prag House and Bright Morning Star. Have you looked at the website for NICA (Northwest Intentional Community Association)? It's at www.ic.org/nica.
