I have visited some large cohousing groups. They often struggle with
partipation. It is easy not to be involved when there are lots of units.
Communications take considerable energy and time with lots of units.
However, this is directly a function of the number of PEOPLE, not units. If
you 48 one bedroom unit, then you will have at most 100 people. In my
experience, communities with over 100 people have special requirements to
make communications work, and of course, turn over is by unit, so the more
units you have, the more turnover potential you have. So creating methods
of training new folks would be wise in a larger unit community.

Good luck on your community endeavors,

Rob Sandelin

I have heard from more than one informed source that the best? number of
units for
a cohousing group is between 15 and 30. 30 because more than that and
things
become unwieldy.

I am looking into cohousing with a proposed 48 units.

I would appreciate hearing from anybody that has experience with groups over
say
35.

Tim
