We are working on revising our work system here at Two Acre Wood. We are close to proposing a new system where people sign up for what they like to do out of an exhaustive list of everything that gets done here - from cooking and cleaning to landscape maintenance to committee time, etc. In our fist basic survey, we found that there is a range of people working anywhere from 4 to 30 hours per month for the community. Although we know it will never be equal, we are looking for ways to make it feel slightly more fair, like at least a minimum expectation. Some folks here resist even that though. We would really like to see a few concise descriptions of how other communities get their work done. And: Is there a participation requirement? Is there a minimum # of hours expected? Is there an exemption for those who are unable to do physical work easily? Is there a pay or work option? Does someone track whether the work gets done? Etc. I know this has been discussed much before, but it would be really helpful if folks could send a really concise description of their system - either directly to me - or to the list. Thanks very much!
