RE: Building trust in teams (was helping stuck committee)

Well, letting go does imply trust in the group or the individuals, at least
sometimes. Of course it can be that I don't care about the outcome, which is
not quite the same. Letting go because I am pissed off, or alienated is of
course another reason, and not trust building at all.

One thing I have seen groups do with non-participating members is to
explicitly get them to sign on to agreement and trust, so non-participation
is clearly understood to mean, I am OK with whatever outcome the group comes
up with and I trust the group to watch out for my interests. This is called
signing off in a couple of groups, and is a good way to ensure that peoples
nonparticipation is not because of some unhappy reason. Its a way of really
checking in with the membership, and achieving a full consensus of the
entire group, not just those that show up at a particular meeting.

Any suggestions for those who believe that letting go in and of itself,
builds trust? "I let go, therefore I trust." "I let go, therefore I am
humble."
