The 'Solar Rough-ins' are pre-installed pipes and conduit for future solar hot water and or photo voltaic installations on the homes with use able solar roof orientations. The rough in hot water lines are all pressure tested and sealed. The conduit has a pull wire installed. When we go to install solar hot water and/or photo voltaic panels on the roof the really hard parts will already be done. We will not have to open up walls to do a clean installation. The additional cost for the rough-in was about $700 per unit. Now if we had not had to value engineer out the between units conduit for phone/cable/ethernet ....... Sharon, Hydronic - hot water heat. The main floor of the common house has in floor hot water heat in addition to the passive solar input. The second floor has standard hot water radiators (not the big old steam ones). In the future we plan to add solar hot water for at least some of the hot water needs. And at least a small demo PV array. The financing was through standard construction financing. It helped to have Wonderland Hill and Art Klien Construction. They both have good records. The Common house was planned to be an integral part of the project from the start and funded as part of the project just like the streets and sidewalks. (The first asphalt layer was put in last Saturday.)
