An adjoining one bedroom unit provides housing for a staff person. The program is administered by Specialized Housing, Inc., a local organization which administers several other community living programs in the area. Ours is the only one in a cohousing community. -- Here at Jackson Place Cohousing, in Seattle, one of our three-bedroom townhomes is owned by Parkview Services, an organization that provides assistance for developmentally delayed people. There are three adult men living there. A caretaker comes in to help them get ready to go to work in the mornings, and their parents visit often. None of the men are related to anyone else who lives in the community, although the couple who brought in Parkview has a developmentally delayed daughter who lives in a shared home in another part of town. The men and their caretaker come to common meals and do some small chores, like emptying the trash and recycling. Although Parkview is an owner, the organization does not participate in any of our decision-making, except condominium decisions having to do with economic matters. We have a written agreement specifying the relationship between them and the rest of the community. Every once in a while some of the parents of the adult men will let us know about some idea or preference they have related to things that are going on.
