I have been reading this list for years now and had been reading it for about three years before I moved into cohousing. A friend recently pointed out to me why I was often so shocked that consensus decisions take so long and that people do not pay attention to the budgets we pass until they find there is no money for their pet projects -- I am not living with the people on this list! Only three or four people in my community read the list although others have come and gone from time to time. That leaves 54 other adults who could care less about the kind of discussions we have here -- or at least do not care enough to allot time for them in their day. Many, many -- perhaps even a majority -- are not even aware that this discussion exists. Many have not read or seen the cohousing book or read Communities magazine or read anything about cohousing except our own community publicity (which is considerable). This was a very enlightening and sobering realization that I thought might be of help/interest to others on the list.
