We at Yellow Plum Commons in SE Washington State are so early in our process I can't say we have any "experience" to share, but we'd like to offer rental possibilities as well. We hope mother-in-law or care-giver quarters (acceptable in our zoning) will be the answer. Basically, the zoning specifies - if the space is attached to the main house, has it's own entry and kitchen/bath amenities it can be rented out. If a number of our units have these additional "suites" we think it will provide a very versatile space not only for renting but other transitional life needs as well. I offer it up as an idea as well as open it up to anyone with experience/knowledge in this kind of option. Bobi Yellow Plum Commons original message: Hello from Grand Rapids, Michigan! Our co-housing group will be participating in a design charette very soon and are looking into the options/possibilities related to having rental units within the community or having the cohousing members support rentals surrounding co-housing neighborhood. If you have any experience in this area and are willing to share that information it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Anita
