Hey thanks everyone for the ideas / info on modular construction, 
and Kevin's input on retrofit.  Food for thought!  (as soon as I'm done
with grad school and have a neuron to spare!) ;-)

Jenny - I have friends at Great Oak (Susan, Eric and Tammy!) and 
loved visiting.  Nice to know of at least one example of pre-fab that 
I've seen  "in the flesh" and liked just fine. Thanks!  I'll file this
digest away for the future (and to remind me to check the archives
when we're seriously involved again with a group). 

I still harbor a fantasy of moving back to A2 into one of the many
cohousing neighborhoods that are popping up but I don't know if I'll
ever pry my partner away from New England. :-)
