RE: How have things worked out

I have a one bedroom unit at Oak Creek Commons which is 735 sq. ft. I
like the design, esp. the kitchen which is the same size or bigger than
larger units here, and I have adequate space except I would love one
more big closet. My dining room is large enough to open up my table to
seat 8, which I have done. I do not have room for 8 to sit comfortably
in the living room, though.

We have 13 3-bedroom homes with one bath up and one down, no master
bath. I personally would want a master bath and a bath for the kids
upstairs. I use the common house for guests, but also have guests on my
living room couch, mostly for those who do not want to stay in the CH
because the bath is shared. I would have preferred a separate bath in
the CH for the guest rooms.

There is this cohousing idea that says since you have the common house
you need far less space in your unit.

In my visits and travels to various communities have not seen this idea
born out. Yes, you no longer need a spare bedroom because you have a
guest room in the CH but if you are going to have four friends over for
dinner then you need a Living/dinning room big enough to seat six.

If there are two floors then there are two baths.

Does the master bedroom in a 3 bedroom have a bath of its own? Big
enough for two? How big is a closet?

We are trying to determine the best size for our units. There are two
ideas.

1 bedroom @ 800
2 bedroom @1200
3 bedroom @ 1600
no four bedrooms

or

1 bedroom @ 690
2 bedroom @1000
3 bedroom @ 1200
4 bedroom @1430

So what say you? How big is your unit? How many live in it and are you
happy with the size?

Tim
