A research coordinator is important to help make sure we only get excellent surveys-- to separate the wheat from the chaff. But once a study gets the Gold Seal of approval, I hope people would be willing to work with the researchers. Of course, it's the individuals' choice. But to hear such negativity -- about ALL surveys-- from leaders of the cohousing movement has me discouraged. The cohousers that I know are community-minded -- not only about their own community, but about the broader cohousing community and beyond. I would hope that for some people this would extend to spending 10-20 minutes out of the year to fill out a few excellent surveys, since we are uniquely qualified to speak of the cohousing experience. If people give a blanket refusal to do any surveys whatsoever, that's their choice. But it does seem to be throwing out the babies with the bathwater. Apologies for the terribly mixed metaphors.
