I just want to clarify that I have been in the process of contacting each
community individually for the past two weeks, by direct email and

contact information for a number of communities was not working properly. I
feel that I must try every channel available to make contact with a
community before I remove it from the study.

No problem -- this sounds wonderful and I'm glad you shared this information and that you are contacting individual communities. Just hearing that you have a methodology is reassuring -- many before you haven't had a clue.

And certainly it is important to let people on the list know you are doing this and it is a perfect use of the list to let people know you need help contacting individual communities. While we all get frustrated when communities do not update their contact information (or even tell us what state they are located in), in the end it is also a sign of success -- the communities have become communities, looking inward until they have problems and need help or someone else needs their help.

I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding but in the end I hope it is useful. Perhaps the frustration over living a fish bowl where the fish are expected to entertain as well as keep themselves swimming around 24/7 can find a place in your research!
