I think that it's important to remember that everything we hear from anyone
on this list is just "one side of the story", so this is no exception.

Regarding meetings being hijacked: This seems to me connected to the whole issues of what communities do (or don't do) when one or more persons behave in unacceptable ways. This is, as far as I can tell, the most troublesome issue which communities
often face. IMO the way to deal with it is certainly not by creating a
"secret meeting" structure, but rather by creating an open meeting structure which makes it hard for a person (or persons) to carry out behavior which is in violation of norms/rules set by the community ,part of which has to be a willingness to call people
on their unacceptable behavior.
Easier said than done! :(

I'd love to hear from other people what they do in such situations.

Best,
Racheli.

I'm guessing that many of us believe and all of us would hope that the sort
of problems that Mr Gauss is facing shouldn't arise in a coho community
because of the ways we (hope to) interact with and understand each other. Mr Gauss's two emails address two different topics, but share his obvious
discomfort with the way things appear to be happening in his community.
However the fact that (to my mind) he appears to be seeking validation by
appealing to the Coho-L list makes me wonder what is really happening
within his community and what efforts may have been made to address his
complaints within the community. I find myself very reluctant to make any judgement without hearing something of the "other side of the story" - which
Mr Gauss omits.
Closed meetings and secret records indeed sound very troublesome - that is unless the open meetings are perhaps being hijacked and the records misused
to further an agenda far from the hoped for goals of cohousing.

I have encountered in our cohousing community a reluctance to display
results of inspections and records of our spa and pool.
