Has anyone out there had experience with creating a cohousing community
within a larger condo or apartment building? Farmers market Flats
Cohousing, St Paul MN will be one floor of a 5-story building . An
indoor farmer's market will be on the first floor, and the rest will be
condos. One of the residential floors is reserved for the cohousing
community.
My question is, how do your legal documents fit in with the legal
documents for the rest of your development? Swan's Market is the only
possible example that I can think of. I'm aware that their cohousing
community is pretty self-contained; but I believe there are other
housing units also as part of the actual building/structure.
Can someone from Swan's Market, or other communities that have this
situation, tell me how your legal structure works, vis-a-vis the rest of
the development there? Are your residents also part of a larger
community association (e.g., a condo association-within a condo
association)? Have you had problems with this? Can you give me advice on
what pitfalls to avoid? Thanks!
From Joelyn at Monterey Cohousing, Minneapolis, where we're madly raking leaves and hoping to beat the first snowfall.
