So while the Borda Count promotes candidates who are are more broadly accepted in a community, is it really necessary if the community uses collaborative decision-making?
We currently have a nominating committee and every year there have been some people who were unhappy with the candidates or the process or the manner in which the slate was presented. To some extent this is because we have not defined the process clearly enough. One reason we haven't done that is because those who want change, don't want to spend anytime fixing something they view as a fundamentally not a good one.
On the person who thought I was presumptuous to assume everyone knew what a Borda count was, the question was what communities are using it. If you were using it you would know.
The most accessible information on the Borda Count as well as on other voting processes is Wikipedia. I find it to be the best first source on just about everything.
