Larry Miller described how a couple of community members at Oak Creek commons just started doing a Saturday morning gathering. It grew into a community event. This kind of story is repeated in many places and situations. A person who really likes books starts a book club, dancing, plays in the commonhouse, etc. Sometimes groups get stuck in this loop of waiting for some committee to do things. One of the ways we encourage independent action is that the largest budget item in our annual budget is called the project budget. It has no constraints on it other than you have to ask for money at a meeting. This can fund all manner of parties, gatherings, and other activities. As far as I can remember, a request for these funds has never been refused. Rob Sandelin Sharingwood Community Snohomish County, WA
