Community funds for alcohol for parties?

Hello folks,
I haven't been on here for awhile, but here is a community question that we would like to poll you on. We recently had a 10 year celebration and invited lots of friends, and family, and extended community members. We have a voluntary fund that we all (almost all) contribute to that is used primarily to pay for childcare for meetings, but is also used to pay party costs on occasion. This time the issue came up as to whether this fund should pay for any alcohol. Most said sure it is part of putting on a party, but some were strongly against paying any community money for alcohol.

Those in favor thought if they pay for childcare, or meat, or potato chips that they may not personally use, that it is OK to spend a little money from the social fund on wine for a big community event now and then. (For meals and small parties, wine and beer is brought and purchased by individuals.)

We'd like to know how you all handle this sort of thing as we move towards some sort of consensus on the issue.
Thanks,
Marty Roberts
