some were strongly against paying any community money for alcohol.
I don't think this has ever come up. We do pot lucks normally and those who don't want to cook bring wine, beer, or sangria. They actually like being able to contribute without thinking about it.
Even celebrations are potlucks. Sometimes several people will go together and cook something big but not usually. We have a sign up so people can see if we need more salads or desserts, or paper goods, etc.
On Christmas and Thanksgiving we have a member who doesn't do a lot of weekly/monthly work so he contributes the turkey and another person (me) cooks it.
On Chanukah, several people cook a planned menu and guests contribute to cover costs.
Even for a community milestone, we would do a potluck. Sharon ---- Sharon Villines Takoma Village Cohousing, Washington DC http://www.takomavillage.org
