Cohousing in Sarasota, Florida

Zev is marketing Oak Vista Village for the RANMAR Development Company, but they
are not the only game in town. The Suncoast Elder Cohousing Community was
formed anew in September and has had two workshops and a social. We will be
having out first organizational meeting on November 17th at the Selby Library
in Sarasota. Many of the potential cohousers have been with us for four years
as we have attempted projects first in Englewood and then Venice and now
Sarasota. Our group has had an attraction to Cracker-style, detached cottages
and has had a site plan developed for 24 cottages and a common house clustered
around an open commons.

Through my 501.C.3, nonprofit company, HomeShare Florida, cooperation is being
sought with the Community Housing Trust of Sarasota County to partner in the
development of elder cohousing. By having both nonprofits use grants for site
purchase, site development, and legal costs for setting up the condominium
documents, we hope to keep the price of the units lower.

We have several, 5-acre, sites under consideration and have met with County
Zoning for a review of our site plan. So far, so good, and we will be meeting
next with the County Building Department. We are looking forward to Zev's
workshops. I plan to attend and have encouraged our members to attend. Zev
had assisted us in our Englewood effort, and I'm sure that he will do his usual
fantastic job with Oak Vista Village. I don't see our projects as being
competitive, and the Suncoast's future cohousers should find what they want in
one or the other of our communities. They've gone from zero choices to the
possibility of two choices for cohousing.

You can find us on MeetUp.com. Search "Suncoast Elder Cohousing Community" and
enter zip code 34232.
