With Fred Lanphear's recent passing, Songaia Cohousing Community lost its
only formally initiated elder.

A bit of Fred's story of this initiation was written by him a little over a
year ago in his blog:

More will be coming out when his book on Songaia is published (in 2011).

I'm interested in learning about other cohousing communities and whether
they have initiated people as elders. Has your community done this? Is this
something that has been discussed? What are your thoughts about the idea?
