Another number I'm curious about is the cost by square footage to maintain or its value in terms of use or something like that. We have a need for indoor active play space. Where a pingpong table can be set and/or the under 8 can go to run around with push toys, balls, etc. Basically to clear the dining room of such activities after (and during) meals. On snow days, it would be nice to have quiet adult activities in the dining room and loud kid activities in an active play space. We have 20 kids. Snow days are loud. We have a large, beautiful room that is a workshop and storage. Some of us would like to have a much smaller room for the workshop -- just large enough to store tools and have a workbench. And find storage outside for lawnmowers, etc. Then we could use the workshop with all its wonderful windows for active play space. One argument for doing this -- besides noise reduction and fostering intergenerational play -- is the cost of the larger room in comparison with the little use it gets except for storage. I don't know how to calculate that. ideas? Sharon ---- Sharon Villines Takoma Village Cohousing, Washington DC http://www.takomavillage.org
