Not really a variant, a fundamental difference. My wife participates well, is a great meeting facilitator, is an introvert, and needs time alone to gather her forces-- which we all do to some extent, but social situations are draining to her. I, on the other hand, thrive in and am energized by extensive interaction with others and am happy to be with strangers socially. If we can manage this difference in our marriage, I think cohousing communities can also manage it. As with any difference, it helps if those involved recognize the differences and respect them as simple differences, not choices to be criticized or ignored, or needing to be changed.
