We started out with marmoleum throughout the common house. We replaced
the kitchen floor about ten years in (it was getting very chewed up on
the edges especially around the dishwasher) with ceramic tile. We just
replaced the dining room floor (thirteen years after move-in)with cork
tile. Nice looking, good sound-wise, easy to replace just damaged areas.
I was not on the committee that made the decisions so can't give you the details on why these materials were chosen over more marmoleium. (I do know that at least our color of marmoleum tended to look like crap 90% of the time - it was gorgeous after we had it polished once a year or so but rapidly showed scuff marks, etc.)
(Eighteen years into my cohousing journey, I no longer feel the need to know/care about/learn about everything but trust the relevant committees to make good decisions!)
