Dear Friends, We at Altair are trying to finalize our rental policy. Still a forming community, but we need to be clear to folks who are thinking of investing, but not living there themselves and wanting to rent out their home. -Our normal "Trailblazer" process includes Sociocracy training, attending various Circles and Socials, and familiarizing themselves with our history and our culture. -The usual length of time is four months, but two months is possible upon request. Can this be reduced still further to, say, one month? -There was a suggestion that the Owner can "certify" a Renter, but, if the Owner does not go through the training themselves, they may not be able to determine the "fit." -The policy acknowledges, as many communities do, that a Renter is expected to be part of the community, the work parties, the Circle meetings, etc. -When it comes to fiscal or legal matters, the Renter cedes to the Owner to make decisions. -Our minimal rental period is 90 days - no AirBnB's etc. Any suggestions, examples, or comments greatly appreciated. Yours, Joel Altair EcoVillage 610-220-6172 www.altairecovillage.org
