Service dogs are very different -- they stay where told to stay and do not jump around. They are very obedient. Kiva sleeps on the floor beside her master or in a corner and never goes on carpets or furniture. The children do not play with her. She does not mix with other animals. Ours and I suspect all service animals also have very frequent professional grooming so she is very clean. I'm very sensitive to pet odors and Kiva NEVER has an odor. Because our guest rooms are carpeted we have discussed what we would do if a service dog wanted to stay there and decided that we would find a place for the dog (and guest) in someone's uncarpeted or non-allergic household.
