Seems that if service animals are allowed in then the dander, and thus the
allergens will be in anyway. In an ideal world nobody will have allergies,
but to fully restrict pets from common areas seems to imply those needing
service animals, or training service animals, are also unwelcome. Seems
cats are the usual offenders rather than dogs, would it be feasable to allow
dogs but not cats? (Most cats are not as socially inclined as dogs
anyway...) I'm from an island where dogs go everywhere humans do, and it
seems cruel to eliminate this interaction.

Hi all -

>From Rob Sandelin's post on this subject: "People who have pet allergies
will not enjoy that pets are in the commonhouse."

An unusual feature of our commonhouse at Eastern Village Cohousing will be
that several of the units, including mine, have a front door that opens into
it or into corridors adjoining common spaces, either on the main floor or
upstairs (where the laundry and guest rooms will be). Some of us in this
situation have pets, and thus the really really rough draft (not fully
discussed or adopted yet by the group) of the pet policy shows pets allowed
in the common house, with some limitations.

In researching that part of the policy, I looked more to Manhattan co-ops
than to cohousing for ideas, because New Yorkers are used to figuring out
pet rules for elevator buildings.
