I have found that concensus works well when the facilitation works well. I have found that it's possible for the process of reaching consensus can be painful and long leaving me still feeling unheard and unrepresented, but in the hands of a skilled, trained facilitator we have made some REALLY difficult decisions by consensus in a way that has felt so affirming. I do believe our community is partially responsible for the success of consensus. Everyone in the group is committed to the consensus process and to each other, which makes things easier to facilitate. But the excellent facilitation makes it easier to have a good, committed group, too so it's a self-feeding circle. I'm leaving in a few hours for Value Engineering. Let's hope I don't have to write back to retract my message. <vbg> Jeanne JP Cohousing, Boston, MA _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L
