Maybe my first response (only positive!) was too hasty.  Just because 
they are your neighbors does not mean you shouldn't ask for references 
and use Contracts.  Also getting them to bid competitively with other 
carpenters is fine.  I would use my neighbors because I have learned to 
admire their work and trust their professionalism.  In my opinion the 
benefits can far out weigh the pitfalls.  Laura
