I can't help but get into this. No matter what, how much, or how little is given, it deserves a thank you. The people who did not even acknowledge the gift are at fault, not you. They may be busy, but really how long does it take to zip off an email or a two sentence note? The only acceptable excuse is that they did not know your email or street address. But with "people finder" on the Internet, even that's a little weak. We try to teach it to our children, we should apply it to ourselves - thank you notes. I think the suggestions have been good - work, gift, or money. Except, to expect a guest to pay the same rate as a B&B is a bit excessive - have you stayed in a B&B lately? In the DC area you are talking $100 to $150 a night, not something I can afford on a regular basis. Our difficulty has been in finding out what is wanted and needed. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: Sharon Villines [mailto:sharon [at] sharonvillines.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 25, 2006 9:00 AM To: Cohousing-L Subject: Re: [C-L]_ Guest Etiquette Question Another idea for guests is to contribute gifts like sheets and pillow cases, pillows, a box of wine glasses, etc. We have had visiting parents (actually) who decided that what we really needed was new sheets and they would by them in multiple sets. We have a plan every year to make a list of things we want so it is available to people (residents and guests) who may want to give us gifts. Sometimes it happens.
