It is a beautiful article with great photos, and in one of those funny small
world articles, unbeknownst to me, my uncle lived there until he died last
year. He wasn’t one of the original members, but was there for many years, and
his wife who still lives there found the community very supportive during his
Uncle Bob’s decline. I only visited there a few years ago, and Sunlight
definitely looks like cohousing to me. Although, I expect that the growth of
cohousing, and many articles about the concept in recent decades has helped the
community retain it’s sense of community and made it easier to attract new
families that appreciate what it has to offer.

To Brian’s question, I don’t think there is any cohousing neighborhood the
makes meal sharing mandatory, and I expect you’d actually find way more
similarities in pet policies that differences. I think the difference tend to
be more around how much effort communities put into keeping a strong meal
program going (encouraging emails and ongoing discussion about how to refine it
so it works for people), than specific policies.

I think there are more IC cultural divisions than just income sharing or
not. Has anyone sorted cohousings by elaborateness of pet policy and
mandatoryness of meal sharing?

What community has the pet policy that, when your dog trees a possum
in the orchard at 3am, you go deal with it? A car policy about who
keeps track of the oil in the tractor?
