Care Partnerships: A Community-Based Solution to Support Aging in Community Join us for this FREE webinar on Thursday, June 1st, 6:15-7:30 p.m. EDST. Register at https://www.agingcollaboratory.org/webinars One of the goals of the Aging in Community Collaboratory is to #DISRUPTCAREGIVING. We believe the long-term care system in our country is broken. On the one hand, we have legions of single-person “caregivers” (usually a spouse or daughter) trying to “do it all” in providing care and support for an elder loved one at home. And at the other extreme, we have institutional long-term care. We believe we can all age better, when we do it together! From cradle to grave, humans have survived, and THRIVED, because we live, work, play and CARE, together in community. We are a social animal – we were never meant to do any of this all alone. We believe that by working together with our family, friends and neighbors, as well as with strategic community partnerships, we can create viable alternative models of care to the current menu of limited and unacceptable options for when many of us will become most vulnerable and frail. For those who attended our sessions at last week’s COHO US Conference, you know the Cavalry isn’t coming and the caregiver shortage is already underway… it’s up to us! We are the ones we have been waiting for! Community care partnerships are one viable answer, although how those partnerships form and run, as well as roles and responsibilities of members, will vary from community to community. Eden at Home promotes a community model approach in which the culture of meaningful care does not see the needs of caregivers as separate from the needs of care receivers, but rather advocates for the well-being of the whole care partnership. Working together, empowered care-partner teams help to support the well-being and continued growth and development of their elder care-partners and each other. By focusing on person-directed values such as choice, dignity, respect, self-determination and purposeful living, the care-partner team seeks to eliminate loneliness, helplessness, and boredom for all involved. We invite you to join the Aging in Community Collaboratory next Thursday, June 1st, at 6:15 pm EST for a FREE WEBINAR by Laura Beck on Care Partnerships. Laura serves as Learning and Development Guide for The Eden Alternative, an international non-profit organization focused on creating quality of life for elders and their care partners, wherever they live. Her 14 years with The Eden Alternative include development of Eden at Home, an initiative of The Eden Alternative focused on meeting the needs of elders living at home and their care-partners. Oh, and yes! Laura also is a long-time resident of cohousing! She puts the “community” into “practice”😊 Time: Jun 1, 2017 6:15 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada) <javascript:;> Register at https://www.agingcollaboratory.org/webinars
