At Milagro in the Sonoran Desert we celebrate the two equinoxes and the two
solstices. We gather before sunset at a fire circle in an open area with great
views in all directions, and mark the turning of the seasons with poems/ songs/
sayings from native traditions. They aren’t events where everyone is expected
to attend, and sometimes only a handful show, but we keep it going.

We also have, whenever appropriate, an “Aloha” celebration to welcome new
residents and say farewell to departing ones. It’s an excuse to meet and mingle
and enjoy some drinks and snacks together.

On New Years Eve we usually do a “progressive dinner” where several households
each commit to preparing one course of a meal or drinks, and everyone
progresses randomly from house to house sampling the goodies, ending up with
desserts in the Common House (and sometimes a gift table where people can
offload their most unwanted Xmas presents, or even something nice!).
